Splynx’s Hotspot add-on being retired — here’s where it goes next

Please note: this article has been updated with the latest information since its original version was posted on May 25, 2022.  The Splynx Hotspot add-on is no longer supported, as our new product, Powerlynx, has taken over all the key functions from the old hotspot module. It is cloud-based, easy to use, highly scalable, and also offers additional options with greater flexibility.

Farewell to Splynx’s Hotspot add-on

As mentioned initially, the Splynx Hotspot add-on is no longer supported. After the initial launch in v4.0, we gathered feedback and decided to go further with our new product, Powerlynx — hotspot management platform. It was created based on the experience gained and customer feedback as a full-scale solution that goes far beyond the basic functionality of the old hotspot module. Packed with advanced features and flexibility for hotspot management and monetization, it provides everything you need to launch a hotspot business in the simplest way.

Meet Powerlynx

No matter the size of your ISP, growth is always the goal. Adding Hotspot services to your offerings allows you to expand your network, stay ahead of the competition, and boost your revenue. And Powerlynx is here to help. It is a lightweight Wi-Fi hotspot management and billing solution that doesn’t require costly server infrastructure or technical knowledge.

Hotspot Management

What makes Powerlynx different?

  • Cloud-Based: Powerlynx operates in the cloud, eliminating the need for powerful server infrastructure or technical expertise.
  • Native Integration: It seamlessly integrates with Mikrotik and Cambium devices, and it is being expanded to support other vendors via the RADIUS protocol — no extra configurations are required.
  • Easy Deployment: The system is ready to use immediately, with full deployment and setup taking less than a day.
  • Cost-Effective: All features included in the license fee — no hidden charges or limitations. Pricing is determined by the number of active online users, not routers or access points.

What about Features?

  • Custom Tariff Plans: Create tailored plans with various settings and limitations, including traffic limits, online time restrictions, and availability on specific days or hours.
  • Custom Vouchers: Generate printed vouchers for cash-only venues alongside familiar online payment options. Vouchers are crucial in countries with fragmented payment systems and a high reliance on cash, such as South Africa.
  • Branded Splash Pages: Design personalized login interfaces for each location, enhancing user experience with tailored branding.
  • Location-Based Management: Manage multiple hotspots from a single centralized hub, with settings specific to each location.
  • Built-In Advertising: Use the dedicated module to display image and video ads on the splash page, creating additional revenue opportunities.

Hotspot Login with Splynx Account

With the integration of Splynx and Powerlynx, your existing customers can easily log in to any of your hotspots for free internet access with the same credentials. By providing this value-added service, you can boost brand awareness, engage with your community, and significantly enhance the customer experience. Learn more about it here.

Why it matters?

In 2024, 5.4 billion people are using the internet, which is 67% of the world’s population. Over the past year, internet users have increased by 1.8 percent, with 97 million people coming online for the first time in 2023, according to data from reputable organizations, including the ITU, GSMA Intelligence, and Eurostat. However, ITU data confirm that the ability to connect remains profoundly unequal. Approximately 33% of the world’s population — or 2.6 billion people — have never used the internet.

Global-Wi-Fi-Hotspot-Market

Millions of people continue to rely on public hotspots for internet access wherever they are. And, in general, it’s not news at all that open networks today are an essential part of our daily lives and online experience. Hotspot technology expands internet access and helps people in rural areas and low-income communities join the digital economy.

The global Wi-Fi hotspot market was valued at approximately USD 5.6 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 16.2% from 2024 to 2032, reaching around USD 22.5 billion by 2032, according to an IMARC Reports study.

This growth is driven by key factors like the increasing deployment of smart infrastructure, the expanding use of 5G networks, and rising smartphone sales. For ISPs, businesses, and communities, hotspots present a lucrative opportunity to provide internet access to their customers or residents.

By leveraging the Hotspot services, they can:

  • Enter new markets by attracting both small and large businesses.
  • Offer services in pay-as-you-go areas, staying ahead of the competition.
  • Draw in more internet resellers by providing new ways to generate revenue.
